Das Iranische Volk steht auf
Liebe in Wien lebende BürgerInnen!

The Iranian People Rise!
The ongoing protests and demonstrations that started with the unlawful
presidential elections in June 2009, have reached a new climax yesterday
during the ashura festival and the ongoing mournings of Great Ayatollah
Montazeri's death.
The result of this “day of blood" are (so far) eight people killed 300
arrested and many more injured.
As foreign journalists are not allowed to cover the protests, we and the
world have to rely on internet reports of courageous Iranians.
The protest movement enters a new and determined phase; their measures are
now backed by an even larger part of the Iranian civil society.
The people rise and need the solidarity of the international community!
There is no space to say, we didn't know what was going on" because now we
definitely now what this regime is capable of.
We urge:
- Austria and all the other EU Member States to show their solidarity
With the Iranian people;
- Austria in its capacity as a non-permanent member of the United Nations
Security Council to live up to its role by pointing out the human
rights violations committed by the Iranian regime;
- the United Nations to investigate the severe human rights violations in
Iran;
- the United Nations to appoint a UN Special Envoy for Iran;
We ask for:
comprehensive press coverage of the human rights violations in Iran by
the Austrian media, especially the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation
(ORF);
we call on:
- the Austrian government as well as on the Austrian parties to
Officially
- condemn the human rights violations in Iran the Austrian human rights
Organisations to speak out against the ongoing human rights violations
