سیاهی، سپیدی

از دیرباز
همواره گفته اند
که در زیر آسمان
رنگی
بالاتر از سیاهی نیست؛
امّا اگر دُرُست ببینیم،
رنگ نه،
چیزی مگر خیالِ واهی
نیست!


این دیوِ رنگ خوار
هر لحظه روشناییِ عالم را
در خود به نیستی
تهدید می کند؛
با هیبتِ سکون و سکوتش
انسان را
از عشق،
از خدا
نومید می کند.

شاید
باید همیشه گفت که رنگی
زیباتر از سپیدی
نیست؛
این رنگِ مهربان
در جلوه اش نشانی
از ترس و ناامیدی
نیست.


رفتارِ او
با رنگهای دیگر
رفتارِ مادری ست
که پنداری
آنها همه
زاییدگانِ اویند،
نورِ برون دمیده
از دیدگانِ اویند.


شاید
باید بگوییم:
«سیاهی
بی رنگ است!
امّا
بالاتر از سپیدی،
زیباتر از سپیدی
رنگی نیست!

Colour-devouring Demon


“There is no colour beyond Black!”
A hopeless proverb
Of ancient times,
But still in use as widely as ever!
Though, if we look
Long and deep enough into it,
What we see is nothing
But an empty illusion.

Not a moment passes
Without this colour-devouring Demon
Threatening the light of all the Universe
With absolute annihilation;
The mysterious dismay of its solid silence
Deprives mankind
Of all faith in Love,
Of all hope in God.


Perhaps we must always say
That there is no colour
More beautiful than White.
The shining looks
Of this benevolent mother
Never inspires fear and despair.
With her treatment of other colours
She seems to be their loving mother,
And they the light of her eyes.


Perhaps we ought to say:
“ Black is not a colour!
But there is no colour beyond,
Or more beautiful than white.
